Welcome Letter

NRHC Program Final Version

Updates 3/26/15

Two weeks from today our NRHC conference in Gettysburg begins! So we are sending you some information as we prepare for more than 500 of you to  gather at the Wyndham Gettysburg for our regional conference.

Our Place as Text is shaping up to be very interesting and quite an exploration. The Wyndham is outside of Gettysburg proper, and trolleys and tourist buses will come by to take us to our sites. We have asked the Rabbit Transportation system to add extra trolleys and buses, and we expect a response shortly. We will keep you posted, and we will ask for patience if you have to wait for the transportation to loop around on your way to some of the sites and back. Directors, because of our large conference attendance, if you are coming by car or van, you might want to use those vehicles to transport some members of your group to their selected sites. That will also give you a chance to explore more of the beautiful Downtown Gettysburg and the battlefields if that is not your main area.

We have found some Ghost Tour possibilities if that interests you.  if you are indeed booking a group, we’d ask, though, that you refrain from making reservations on Friday so you can attend and enjoy the dinner and hear our keynote speaker, Dr. Bill Blair.  Look for the Ghost Tour flier on the NRHC website.

Student representative Jhenny Bedoya is putting the final touches on the student events with some help from executive board members and volunteers. We’d love to see more of you signing up for Open Mike Night after the dinner on Friday, and please remember to bring lots of swag to swap. Plan to dress up for Saturday’s red carpet student dance. Watch for more information from Jhenny coming your way soon.

If you are giving a paper presentation, and have been scheduled in an AV room, please remember to bring your presentation on a flash drive and have a back-up file – Drop Box, Google drive, email it to yourself, etc.  It’s worth it. And roundtable presenters as well as others can feel free to bring copies of materials to distribute to others.

Two special sessions– the Big Picture discussion on Thursday night and Nuts and Bolts on Saturday – are just for Honors Program directors. We hope you’ll have the time to attend them.

Finally, on Saturday time has been allotted for a student caucus and our NRHC business meeting. We have bylaws changes to vote on, and we will be talking about a conference site for 2018 among other agenda items. Please come with suggestions, ideas and more. And of course, we’ll be looking for directors and students to fill open positions on the executive board.

We’ll send another update next week with any additional items and information. Watch for it in your email.

Karlyn Koh, Executive Secretary
