Executive Secretary/Treasurer
Dr. Shirley Shultz Myers
An Honors Director since 2001, Shirley Myers appreciates how much her program has benefitted from the sharing of best ideas and practices regionally and nationally. For the past three years, she has served the region as secretary-treasurer. Synergy among members of the executive board has allowed her to participate in building the region: reviving the newsletter in a new web-based format—involving contracting a student web designer; revising and integrating the NRHC website with the online newsletter; creating an editorial board of students and faculty; expanding the distribution list and membership; expanding the editor to an editor/webmaster position, elected instead of appointed; and creating new terms for Partners-in-the-Park stipends. Overall, the spirit she wishes to continue supporting within a practice of responsiveness to members is one of encouraging continual innovation and creativity in conference and regional activities. Her scholarly and intellectual interests have evolved from earlier work in Modern Drama (Tom Stoppard), critical thinking, and psychodynamic theory (applied to hearing children of deaf adults) to Deaf Studies and interdisciplinarity.
